Wi-Fi & Internet · Starlink at home & on the go

Guide checked November 1, 2026 · Offers and availability vary; confirm current terms before buying.

Starlink: internet at home or while traveling

Starlink connects a dish-like terminal to satellites and then shares the connection with your devices through Wi-Fi. It can be valuable where cable, fiber, or cellular coverage is poor.

At home: Residential

Consider it for: Rural or remote homes with limited wired options, or places where existing service is inadequate.

Residential is for a fixed, registered home location. It is not a roaming or in-motion plan. Compare its total cost with any reliable fiber or cable service available to you.

On the go: Roam

Consider it for: RV trips, camping, and travel to places where a phone hotspot may not have service.

Choose a travel plan and compatible hardware, such as an eligible Mini kit. You need power and a usable view of the sky wherever you set up.

In-motion use requires an eligible plan, approved equipment, mounting, and location. Check travel, coastal, and international limits before relying on it.

What should I check before buying Starlink?
  • Sky view: Trees, buildings, and rooflines can cause interruptions. Use the Starlink app’s obstruction check at the proposed location.
  • Setup: Choose a safe mount and route for cables. Do not assume you can simply put the terminal anywhere indoors or under trees.
  • Power: The terminal and router need electricity or a suitable power source. Portable hardware still needs power.
  • Consistency: Weather, obstructions, congestion, and location can affect service. Test the video calls and other activities you rely on.
  • Travel data: GB is the amount you can use; Mbps is how fast it moves. Streaming can use a travel allowance quickly. Check reduced-speed performance after the allowance.
  • Pausing: “Standby Mode” can have a monthly fee. Do not assume pausing means zero cost.

Starlink connects your home to the internet; a large house may still need better indoor Wi-Fi coverage. Mark can help assess both parts.
