Wi-Fi & Internet · Mesh Wi-Fi & home coverage

What is a mesh Wi-Fi system?

A mesh system uses several coordinated Wi-Fi units to spread coverage around your home. One connects to your internet equipment; additional units—often called points or nodes—help reach more rooms. They typically share one network name and password.

When it can help

Consider mesh for weak bedrooms, multiple floors, a router stuck at one end of the house, or devices that lose their signal as you move around. A small home with good coverage may need only one well-placed router.

Mesh improves the local connection. It does not increase the internet speed you buy or keep service running through a provider outage by itself.

Placement makes the difference

Put extra units between the router and the weak area, where they still receive a good signal—not in the dead spot itself. Keep them out in the open and above floor level.

Thick walls, metal, and distance can limit results. More units are not always better. Check the system’s connection test after placing them.

Mesh, extenders, or a cable—which should I choose?

A basic extender repeats an existing signal and may add another network name or reduce usable capacity. A coordinated mesh system can be simpler to manage, but quality and compatibility vary.

An Ethernet cable to a compatible mesh point or access point can provide a more reliable connection between units. A wired connection directly to a TV or computer can also help.

Examples of mesh families include eero, TP-Link Deco, and Google Nest Wifi. They are not interchangeable: check model compatibility, ports, provider equipment, and any optional subscription before buying. Mark can help avoid accidentally creating two separate home networks.
